1. What is Mobile Application Management (MAM)?

Mobile Application Management is the strategy and procedure that involves developing or procuring, securing, deploying, accessing, configuring, updating and removing (business) applications from mobile devices used by the employees.

2. What is Mobile Device Management?

Mobile Device Management (MDM) is the configuration of the mobile devices, to include the IT policies imposed by the firm and to make sure that once set up they remain intact. MDM also monitors the overall status and health of the device.
Because it is device-centric, MDM can play an important role in enterprise mobility - especially for company-owned devices, but because MDM tends to address the entire device, without distinguishing between the personal and the corporate, it can be unwieldy to implement.

3. Doesn't MDM do the same things as MAM?

Mobile Application Management is application centric, and therefore can easily target the functions that matter most to enterprises - corporate applications and data - while leaving the personal information alone. Device management is about configuring the mobile devices and making sure that the IT policies that have been put in place by the company remain uncompromised, as well as monitoring the overall status and health of the device. There are some features that MAM does that MDM cannot do such as monitoring the usage of a specific application or wiping targeted applications and data without wiping the entire device. MAM provides an additional layer of security at the application level.
